How to make a delicious White Russian

And a few things you didn't know about this cocktail

Everything started from the Black Russian and, surprisingly, it was created, for the first time, for a woman. More specifically, for Perle Mesta, who was the US Ambassador in Luxembourg. It all happened in the late 40’s. Perle Mesta was in Brussels, at the Metropole Hotel, and the bartender, Gustave Tops, served her a mix of Russian vodka and Kahlua liqueur: a Black Russian.

But, to get to the White Russian, we need to add some whipped cream. It seems that this has happened somewhere in the mid-60’s, but, unfortunately, it’s a mystery who came up with the idea. What is certain is that it was a success – even more, years later, the White Russian has made its appearance on the big screen: it’s Dude’s favorite cocktail (played by actor Jeff Bridges) in The Big Lebowski.

Fortunately, this cocktail’s recipe is pretty straightforward. You need 60 ml of vodka and 30 ml of Kahlua liqueur. And whipped cream, of course. Pour the two drinks in a glass with ice, stir, and then add the whipped cream. And done: you’ve made a White Russian just like in the movies!
