The new trends of the season straight from the catwalk – part 2

Transparency, ruffles and vintage prints

From merry yellow tones to prints or hybrid pieces, designers are coming up with a variety of proposals for this season. Get inspired from the new trends, adapt your wardrobe paying attention to the catwalks, but also to the outfits that you like the most and give you a boost of self-confidence.

1

Send messages

Not just via SMS or WhatsApp, but via the clothes you wear. Because designers have brought on the catwalk various pieces with messages: I’ve seen T-shirts with messages in the Dior show, T-shirt dresses at House of Holland or messages printed on the whole outfit, in Stella McCartney’s show. No leather and no fur, says Stella, which thus reaffirms her own statement.

2

50 shades of yellow

From the colorful outfits category, we can see detaching the ones in various shades of yellow at Emilio Pucci, 3.1 Phillip Lim or Salvatore Ferragamo. Fortunately, there are no strict rules: wear the outfits in this color with yellow accessories or choose contrasting ones. In both cases, we have a strong, brave and chic look.

Half measures

The hybrid outfits are truly spectacular and remind us of collages: as if someone had cut out two very different items, and would have united half of each. In a way, it is very much so, but the result is exceptional thanks to the artistry of the designers. Saint Laurent has proposed a jacket-dress with a romantic accent, Lanvin turned a slip dress adding half of a masculine waistcoat and Simone Rocha overlapped half of a trench over a puff sleeved white shirt. The images speak for themselves.

4

Delicate transparency

Lanvin, Valentino and Dior use the transparent veil in a magic game of hide-and-seek. The veil is covering and revealing at the same time, in a smaller or greater proportion. It’s a trend that you can adjust depending on where you’re going and of… on courage, after all.

5

The new trench

Another iconic piece – the nude trench – is successfully reinterpreted this season. Michael Kors proposes an asymmetrical trench, where the buttons are just for decor. Prada offers a trench coat that closes on one side, while Simone Rocha dares with a hybrid, stunning model.

6

Oversized shoulders

Whether we are talking about dresses or blouses, the oversized shoulders are key elements in the new trends – and usually are highlighted by pants or skirts with less volume. Inspiration comes from the shows signed by Jil Sander, Salvatore Ferragamo or Haider Ackermann.

7

Modern ruffles

I’ve seen them in many collections, displayed in all sorts of ways: small and delicate at Rochas, carefully arranged at Erdem or, at Jacquemus, as fans inspired by origami. Sometimes the ruffles were made out of unusual materials — even black leather, in Alexander McQueen’s collection.

Vintage prints

Fashion is reinventing itself every season and, we discover, without exception, the influences of the past. It’s also the case of the prints, which have a vintage feel in Akris, Emilio Pucci, or Givenchy shows. I chose three outfits with prints from head to toe — they are so cool!
